About Ipswich Art Gallery

With more than 80,000 visitors a year to the Ipswich Art Gallery alone (not including those who visit on tours), it is one of Australia's most popular regional galleries. The museum presents dynamic programs with extensive exhibits and heritage displays for all ages: kids included!

The Ipswich Art Gallery has been around since 1951 when it first opened in the Town Hall foyer. In 1980 this historic landmark was relocated to what is now known as The Ipswich Community Arts Center and went under new management with a professional director at their helm starting 1985 who led us through some major renovations including ones done within our beautiful old building back home! You might say that history repeated itself but not quite - because after all these years apart from each other we've finally come full circle again: Here you can see us today sitting pretty alongside Lower Brook Street once more.

What to do in Ipswich Art Gallery

We have something for everyone at the museum, with changing programme bringing together art forms from all over. From travelling exhibits to regular open shows featuring local artwork - there's always an exciting show coming soon!

You can always find new things at our open studio. From art to music, you're sure never bored with what we have in store for the building!

We are dedicated to bringing art and history alive through our events programme, which includes workshops like craft sessions or painting classes. We host tours for the public so they can see what we're working on in person; talks about different historical periods such as World War II (our most popular topic) with some interesting facts you might not know--and quizzes just because it's worth trying out those new skills! You'll also have plenty opportunities for fun – we host regular quizzes in addition to tours so there's always something new waiting just around every corner!
